Puppies and Lineage
Crimson Miniature American Shepherds are dogs that can do it all and live with us in our rural home on 15 acres in southwest Missouri. Our dogs have room to run and play and even have an agility course in the backyard! Our ideal Miniature American Shepherd (MAS) meets the AKC breed standard, has a wonderful temperament, and stands 15-16” tall. We want a dog that can compete and win in performance events, herding trials, and the conformation show ring, and then lie on the couch beside us at night.
All Crimson Miniature American Shepherds are health-tested for genetic conditions known to occur in the breed, including CEA, CDDY, CMR1, DM, HSF4, HUU, MDR1, NAD, and PRA-PRCD. Our MAS are also tested for other health and genetic issues, such as eye conditions, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and patellar luxation, through OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals). We are very proud that many of our dogs are in the CHIC Certification Program with OFA, having completed all required tests. Our MAS are dual-registered with AKC and UKC so we can compete in a wide variety of sports – we actively compete in Conformation, Agility, Obedience, Rally Obedience, Scent Work, Fast Cat, and Herding. We have also tried Barn Hunt and Dock Diving. Crimson MAS dogs obtain their Canine Good Citizen (CGC) at a minimum, and many have Trick Dog and Farm Dog titles as well. All of our breeding dogs are titled before breeding because we believe that breeding dogs must demonstrate working ability in addition to their beauty. We believe that we owe it to the MAS breed to meet or exceed the breed standard with every litter we raise.
Puppy litters are carefully planned, with a focus on producing puppies with the correct temperament, health, and conformation, based on the written AKC breed standard. We have Miniature American Shepherd puppies for both performance and companion homes.
All puppies are raised in our home (not in a kennel) and receive plenty of attention, stimulation, and experiences using Puppy Culture guidelines, so they are the best possible companions for our new families. Everyone who takes one of our puppies home becomes part of our extended family, and we love to keep in contact to hear about their exploits. We are always available to answer questions, offer guidance, and cheer you on as they accomplish their goals. According to the AKC breed standard, MAS females can range from 13” to 17” tall, and males from 14” to 18” tall. They weigh around 20 to 40 pounds as adults. Their small, compact size makes them ideal pets – small enough to sit in your lap and go places with you easily, yet large enough to jump in the truck or go kayaking with you. Miniature American Shepherds are intelligent, loyal, and willing to please, and they are generally easy to train. The breed was originally bred to herd, but they are so smart and versatile that they excel in other events and make wonderful companions. Miniature American Shepherds were previously known as Miniature Australian Shepherds, but the name changed when the AKC gave them full recognition and registration in 2015.
The Miniature American Shepherd is a smaller version of the Australian Shepherd, with Aussies in their background and pedigrees. MAS come in a variety of colors and patterns – just like Australian Shepherds. The colors are Red, Black, Red Merle, and Blue Merle, with varying amounts of white and copper markings. MAS can also have a variety of eye colors, including blue, brown, amber, or hazel. They can also have one eye of each color, marbled eyes, or eyes with flecks of color.
